The biggest problem for youth in Kenya is idleness. The kids that go to school have nothing to do when they’re on break. The kids that can’t go to school have nothing to do – all the time. There are no sports for them to participate in. There are no classes to attend. That’s about to change . . .

IMG_7112Elizabeth – Lead Mentor
Elizabeth was born and raised in the slums of Kenya. She had a mentor who helped her see her potential. She’s since risen up and created quite a life for herself. She’s working with Compassion International, an organization that helped her in the past, giving back and releasing children from poverty and participating in leadership training. She also studied counseling and has a mentoring background. When told about this project, she excitedly decided to change locations to Ngong Hills, Kenya so she could lead the charge, working full time. She’ll be running group and one-on-one mentoring as well as creating outings and programs.

Mika Bukuru Munga – Music Instructor
Mika plays the guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards. He also sings and knows French. His goal is to spread his talents to the youth of Kenya. He directs the church choir in a church in Ngong Hills, Kenya. He also shares his instrumental talent during services. And we were lucky enough to get him on board to share his talents with the youth of Ngong. He will be working 6 hours per week, teaching guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, gospel singing, and French.

Winfred – Music, Dance, and Crafts Instructor

Winfred passionately showed up to her interview ready to help in any way she can. She makes amazing jewelry and will be sharing that skill with the youth of Ngong Hills. She also will be teaching Salsa Dancing, Tango, Gospel Singing, and R&B singing. This will really give the youth so much to learn and do and strive for.

Thomas Wachaiyu – Logistics Manager

Somebody has to take care of all the little – and big – things. And we were so lucky to get Tom to do just that. He will be helping the youth with things like opening bank accounts, renting locations, and making sure they know where classes are each week. Tom has experience in a similar role, volunteering with another organization: The Longonot Education Initiative. He has a proven track record of success and we’re so excited to have him.
